Explore Seattle – South Lake Union Neighborhood

LIVING IN SEATTLE – SOUTH LAKE UNION NEIGHBORHOOD

So you’re thinking of moving to Seattle and have no clue where you wanna live? There’s a ton of neighborhoods in this city and when I was moving out here I was overwhelmed with all the choices. So before you make the big leap, let’s chat about South Lake Union a little.

I’m not going to give you the history of this neighborhood or the price point. That information changes all the time and it would be impossible for me to continually keep up with. So instead, I want to give the vibe of this neighborhood. I want you to know exactly if this is the right place for you.

THE PEOPLE

The people in South Lake Union to me consist of business, tech savvy individuals. There’s a lot of tech bros but also women too that work at amazon google, etc… you get what I’m trying to say.

There’s a little more than 29k people that live in South Lake Union, roughly 15k of them being men and 13k of them are women. The average age is around 32 and wouldn’t ya know it…most of the people that live here are…SINGLE!

We already know that Seattle isn’t the cheapest place to live and without a doubt SLU doesn’t make it any cheaper. If you are someone that wants to live in a really swanky high rise apartment, this neighborhood is for you! If you are looking for a home with a view, this is for sure a must see neighborhood. Keep in mind the average household income is also a little more than $129k.

THE VIBE

South Lake Union was surprisingly a lovely neighborhood to walk through. I say suprisingly because I could never see myself living right in the middle of a city…but this place is special because you get the best of both worlds.

Although you are right in the city, you are also right on the water. Being able to be so close to walking trails and water makes this city neighborhood extremely desirable. Walking through it there were loads of people riding bikes, boating, going for runs and also having picnics.

Another thing that shocked me was how many fun bars and restaurants there were. Look I know cities are known for this kind of thing but I went into it thinking that SLU was mostly amazon land and more people worked than had fun…yeah I was wrong. There’s so many cute shops, bars and restaurants that it makes for easy living. Not to mention there’s a Whole Foods right in the center making it easy to get groceries when need be.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

Honestly after taking a day to walk around South Lake Union I was shook with how much fun I had. Let me know what ya’ll think of SLU in the comments!
